Sales Techniques & Skills Training:
Very few people admit to enjoying being ‘sold to’ and there remains a common misconception that selling requires being pushy.
Consultative selling is an entirely different concept. It involves beginning with empathy, asking authentic questions to identify whether there are any genuine needs. Once any needs have been identified, it then requires discussing a relevant product or solution to meet those needs, as opposed to a plug and play, copy and paste approach.
At Donovan Training Associates, we are passionate about supporting sales professionals. We design and facilitate highly practical sales skills training to help organisations and individuals to maximise their sales performance, building trust and loyalty with their clients.
Sales Techniques Training Tailored Specifically for Your Needs
At Donovan Training Associates, we believe that optimised and effective training cannot be achieved with an off-the-shelf, one-size-fits-all solution. As a result, training to strengthen your team’s sales skills and techniques is tailored to meet the needs of your organisation and individual delegates.
How Sales Skills Training Works
Whether you are new to sales and need help improving sales skills, looking to widen your knowledge of different selling techniques enabling you to be more successful in different scenarios, or looking to fine tune your existing approach to selling, we can offer a learning solution that is perfect for your needs.
The process begins with a free no obligation consultation where we will identify your requirements, learn more about your culture and what success would look like if you invested in improving your sales techniques. We will then prepare a bespoke proposal which we can then amend to ensure we meet your specific requirements.
Many of our clients ask us to facilitate courses onsite or at a local venue of their choosing but if you prefer to come off site, we can offer facilities in our Oxfordshire offices which are designed to host workshops in a professional and comfortable environment.

Sales Techniques Training Course Outline: An Example
All our training is tailored specifically to you and considers the needs of your organisation and the needs of your people. Where possible, we endeavour to provide examples and scenarios which are relevant to your business and therefore, which your people can relate to.
However, we understand that when comparing learning providers, it is helpful to have a better understanding of their approach and what a typical sales techniques workshop might look like, and so we have put together the following as an example which we hope you will find useful.
Course Overview
-
In-person
-
Face-to-face via online real-people video training broken down into bite size sessions
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the training, participants will:
-
Be able to distinguish between selling on value rather than price
-
Know how to take control of the meeting agenda and manage expectations
-
Take away some meaningful and authentic questioning techniques
-
Learn techniques to clarify their understanding, demonstrating that they have listened and understood
-
Know how to identify and sell relevant features, with an emphasis on how these will benefit the customer
-
Know how to identify and manage customer objections
-
Be able to close a sale with authority
Course Structure:
This example is based on a one-day sales techniques training workshop. A typical sales techniques workshop would involve us immersing ourselves in your current sales techniques process prior to facilitation.
This ensures that the skills learned are practical and relate to participants individually as opposed to simply taking on generic theory.
Certification
If requested, we can offer certificates for our training.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this level of training course. It is suitable for anyone looking to improve their sales techniques skills, regardless of their current level of expertise. However, if you have a large number of delegates, you may prefer to create cohorts based on department or staff seniority level so that attendees feel more comfortable being open with discussing pain-points and challenges.
Resources:
After the workshop, we will send out resources that are specific to the needs of the audience. Typical examples include links to podcasts, TED talks, books etc.
When suitable, we also embed relevant TED talks into the workbooks that we provide which are all in an interactive PDF format.

Case Study:
“I just wanted to pass you on some feedback from the Northern team from their training over the last few weeks.
Every member of the team gained valuable working practices and ideas from their sessions with you. They were all extremely positive about the training and the way it was conducted and all found it relevant to their roles. .”
We facilitated a series of sales technique workshops for a client in the construction industry. As part of our preparation for this, we spent a day on the road with an existing member of the team, meeting merchants, direct customers and observing how the existing sales process worked.
We then tailored the workshops, dividing delegates into relevant learning groups and using specific product related examples when discussing features and benefits, as well as typical objections that required careful management.
The delegates clearly appreciated that we had taken the time to learn more about their industry and that the workshops were specific to them, rather than being a generic sales techniques workshop.
Towards the end of the session with some of the more experienced sales professionals, the delegates spent an hour calling both existing and potential customers to practice their questioning techniques. It was rewarding to hear some great conversations and see the learning in action to create an immediate return on investment.
